2014 Campground and Road Openings The NPS has announced the opening of its campgrounds in the Smokies for spring of 2014: March 14: Cataloochee Elkmont Cades Cove group sites April 11: Big Creek Deep Creek Cosby Balsam Mountain and Abrams Creek campgrounds were closed all of last year due to federal budget cuts, but they will reopen May 23.
